Skating:

Carter Bear's skating is above average. His speed and movement are positives but the stride could use some work. He makes up for it with his motor.

Passing/Handling:

Bear counts passing and handling as plus skills. He makes on target and smart passes to teammates while having the ability to handle the puck well.

Shooting:

He has an accurate shot that is aided by a quick release which is especially good in close to the net.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Bear's IQ is above average. He is able to see the play well, anticipate to get in good positions and stay calm under pressure to make plays.

Forechecking:

He has a physical edge that helps on the forecheck although there are times he gets outmuscled so he still needs to build strength.

Defense:

Carter makes good contributions on defense by backchecking and playing on the penalty kill.

Best Asset:

His best asset is his compete. While the other parts of his game all help the compete elevates all of the rest.

Biggest Concern:

No major concerns as he is pretty solid overall. He doesn't have the highest end skill and his recent achilles injury could take away from development and hurt his skating.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

At his best he would likely top out as a 2nd liner.

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

He is solid in almost all aspects of his game but lacks the higher end skill to get higher than the 2nd line.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

He could be middle six with some time on the 2nd line but more on a 3rd line however he could be a bottom sixer.

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

The lack of higher end skill along with the achilles injury could limit his upside to a middle or bottom six role if he can't improve 1 or more of his skating, IQ and shot.

Stylistic Comparable:

Bear's combination of skills could be compared to a couple of players such as Hagel or Bennett.
