Emil Andrae

Skating:

Excellent skater and sharp edge work. His agility and burst of speed allow him to cover a lot of ice and enables him to excel in both offensive and defensive transitions.

Passing/Handling:

Andrae is an exceptional passer, seems to always know where he is going with the puck before it comes to him. His passes are crisp and precise which makes him great for getting out of the defensive zone.

Shooting:

Andrae has a decent shot and can get it to goal from the point which is extremely important in my opinion. It's far from a bomb but Andrae possess the ability to find seems and get it through bodies.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Andrae IQ and hockey mind are perhaps his greatest abilities as he reads the ice extremely well, putting himself in the right position to disrupt plays defensively or create plays offensively.

Forechecking:

Defense:

Andrae's IQ and positioning to go along with an active stick allow him to break up plays defensively, which maybe compsensates for his lack of size and physicality.

Best Asset:

By far his IQ. Andrae is an extremely smart player and may even possess future leadership qualities for an NHL team.

Biggest Concern:

At just 5'9 my concern would be that he gets bullied around goal but he's shown that not to be the case thus far in the AHL.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

I believe Andrae could be an excellent second pair defenseman in the NHL who could also see time on a teams power play and PK unit.

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

Once again Andrae's IQ and ability to quarterback and power play make it a pretty easy justification as a second pair defenseman even if it's the PP2.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Level 2 to Level 3

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

Andrae could be 30+ point defenseman with above average BASH. The blocks, assists, shots should be there. Unsure about the hitting.
