AYRTON MARTINO

2025-08-20

Scout: Jeremy Vercillo

Skating:

Very good. Martino is a good skater, but possibly more importantly he's got a high motor. His feet are always moving, which bodes well for getting NHL opportunities

Passing/Handling:

Martin's passing and handling are fine, but he does have a habit of holding onto the puck a bit too long.

Shooting:

Martino has a good shot as evidenced by his 25 goal breakout at Clarkson this year. I'd like to see him shoot more, as I think he's dangerous inside the circles.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Martino's vision with the puck is good. I like the way he gets breakout passes to teammates instead of just dumping it out, and he operates well in space behind the offensive net. He does have a habit of getting lost on the perimeters without the puck and going long stretches without impact.

Forechecking:

Martino's forechecking is a definite strength. He likes to close down time and space, and will even throw hits... he kinda just bounces off of guys at his current size though. And the BASH on his player card his low so either that was unusual for him or he isn't getting credits for those "hits".

Defense:

Martino definitely has a habit of flying the zone early. I don't think he's bad defensively, but he's an offense-first guy, which might not work in some systems.

Best Asset:

I really like his motor. I think he'll be able to chip in through sheer willpower even if the skills don't put him onto a scoring line.

Biggest Concern:

He needs to put on some weight. He got muscled off pucks quite a bit in the AHL game I watched.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

Middle-6 scorer

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

He's got the shot and the vision to put up points, but I don't think will ever lead the charge offensively for his team or line.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

3rd line secondary scorer/energy guy

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

He brings some speed and pressure to the forecheck that a lot of bottom-6 guys do, and has a better scoring touch than a traditional grinder.

Stylistic Comparable:

Logan Stankoven, although Martino's ceiling is significantly lower (note Martino is actually older than Stankoven and probably won't reach the NHL this year unless there's an injury)

Games Scouted:

Union vs Clarkson, Union vs Quinnipiac, Texas vs Grand Rapids
