CONOR GEEKIE

2024-06-26

Scout: Craig Wise

Skating:

Average, for such a big skater Conor is able to move pretty fast, especially his first few steps. I would like to see more at the AHL level as the few game stint he did have, he did not look out of place. His junior games are hard to read since he is so much bigger/stronger than his competition. I resisted giving him an above average rating here as a few times he looked like a giraffe trying to walk with skates on. I joke, but he looks so tall out there and when the puck gets in his skates he has troubles retrieving.

Passing/Handling:

"Average to below average hands, Conor is able to make the odd move to beat a defender but more often then not he would try to and lose the puck. He excels in using his big frame to shield the puck, when he has defenders out wide.

The passing ability is there, but I didn't see it enough to think he will be known for his playmaking ability. "

Shooting:

Average, Conor has a hard shot but not very accurate. He struggled to beat junior goalies with it from any sort of distance.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Below average, careless giveaways either misreading the play or panicking and throwing to puck away.

Forechecking:

Above average, Conor loves to throw his weight around and hits every chance he gets.

Defense:

Below average in junior showings, he was consistently on the wrong side of the puck and cheating for offense. I question this being a factor of the coaching style. Valuing offense more than the defensive responsibility, as it did result in a couple goals against in the games I watched. However in the two games at the AHL level he did look much better defensively, that is why I question the coaching style more so than Conor's defensive abilities.

Best Asset:

Conor's big frame will be his best asset. Shielding the puck and taking it wide to gain control of offensive zone as well if he can luck into a net front presence on a PP1.

Biggest Concern:

Conor doesn't have anything that really stands out as elite, this could push him down the lineup and limit his point upside.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

Tier 2 60-70 points with above average BASH.

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

He needs to luck out to get into a top 6 role with PP1 for this to happen.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Tier 3 50-60 points with above average BASH.

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

Conor will likely be a middle 6 power forward, based on his lack of hands and no real standouts on the offensive side of the puck.

Stylistic Comparable:

Michael Rasmussen

Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:

I would like to see more of Conor next year at the AHL level to see how his game translates with tougher competition.

Games Scouted:

Kelowna, Moose Jaw, Seattle, Saskatoon, 2 games with Calgary Hitmem.
