DANIIL BUT

2025-05-28

Scout: Tony

Skating:

Daniil is a good skater, he will need to work on his acceleration

Passing/Handling:

Daniil is a very good passer and can handle the puck good for his size

Shooting:

Daniil is a good shooter he can with his size get his shot off easily

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Daniil Has good hockey iq, he has good vision and anticipation, he seems to be poised while playing in the offensive zone, I did see some panic while in the defensive zone

Forechecking:

Daniil did use his long reach to get the puck off opponents stick

Defense:

Daniil uses his size to keep the puck away from defensemen while in the offensive zone

Best Asset:

Daniil's Best assets are his puck handling and using his size to get shots away

Biggest Concern:

Will Daniil be able to keep up with the speed of the NHL

Top Tier/Role Potential:

Tier 2/Middle 6 winger

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

If he can work on his acceleration and keep his puck handling at a high level he could be top 6 forward with some power play time.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

3rd Tier/ Bottom 6

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

Daniil needs to become a better skater and be more physical player while not losing his gifts

Stylistic Comparable:

He reminds me of Patrik Lainie (although not as good of shot)

Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:

Daniil could be a good middle 6 forward, if he improves on his skating to keep up with the NHL game.

Skating:

Above average, Daniil utilizes his long stride to create separation but also able to win short puck races with how quick his first few strides are. For such a big body he is able to utilize his edges and maintain speed with quick little pivots when trying to catch a pass or get around a defender.

Passing/Handling:

Average, nothing on the passing stood out I dont think Daniil will be known for his playmaking abilities. As for the puck handling, average to above average. He has very soft hands and able to beat defenders one on one with nifty moves through his legs. He shields the puck well with his big frame when in the corners.

Shooting:

Below average, Daniil has a powerful shot, however very limited shots and when he did it usually misses the net.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Average, No panic on the boards when clearing own zone, usually finds an open pass or takes a few strides until he needs to move the puck. Able to find open ice and create space between him and defenders, that will hopefully allow him to get a few more shots off as he gets more minutes and better linemates.

Forechecking:

Above average at turning pucks over, using his big frame to win battles and a quick stick to catch defenders off guard. This was one of the things that stood out the most to me. However when you hear above average at forchecking and big frame you might thing of BASH potential.... This is not the case, Daniil does not use his big frame for any sort of physicality, shying away from hits.

Defense:

Average, being a winger there were no signs of cheating along the boards and was able to cover in front when the center was late coming back into the play a few times.

Best Asset:

Daniils forechecking causing turnovers is his best asset.

Biggest Concern:

The lack of offence and limited BASH concerns me, if Daniil isn't scoring he wont bring much else to the table (fantasy wise).

Top Tier/Role Potential:

Tier 3, second line complimentary player with 60-70 points and below average BASH.

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

Daniil does bring some level of puck possession that in the right situation he might be able to find some offence, but the lack of shots and hits hurts the BASH.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Tier 3, middle 6 guy 50-60 points and below average BASH.

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

I do think Daniil is able to transition into the NHL, but more so on a shutdown line where he can be trusted defensively and maintain puck possession killing the clock.

Stylistic Comparable:

Michael Rasmussen

Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:

When comparing him to Geekie, But is a more skilled but less physical player. I can see why they traded Geekie, rather than But!
