Scout: Tony
Skating:
Ilya's skating is probably the weakest part of his game. But adequate (not fast)
Passing/Handling:
Ilya has quicks passes, he anticipates where to go with the puck and gets there effectively and quickly
Shooting:
Ilya has good shot, he able to get shot away while shielding the puck from his opponents.
IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):
Ilya has a high hockey IQ, he is able to anticipate where to go with the puck.
Forechecking:
I saw some forechecking from Ilya by using his size to his advantage
Defense:
Ilyas defense was good, again using his size and anticipation to help him get the puck back for his team
Best Asset:
I think Ilyas best asset is his ability to keep the puck away from the opponent
Biggest Concern:
The biggest concern with Iyla his skating, it will need to improve in order for him to progress in his career.
Top Tier/Role Potential:
I would say tier 2,
Justification for Top Tier Assessment:
I say tier 2 with his anticipation, using his size and good passing Middle 6 with some power play time. I do want to say that while Iyla uses his size it ay not be in the way of hits, he kind of leans on people or out position them. Not a lot of BASH.
50th Percentile Tier/Role:
Tier 3
Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:
If skating does not improve, and he does continue to improve other aspects of his game probably 4th line or 12th forward with limited playing time
Stylistic Comparable:
I would say Alexei Protas .
Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:
I think why washington drafted him is they see Alexei part 2.
Games Scouted:
1 OHL Game, 1 USHL game
