Scout: James Iacovone
Skating:
Above average skater. His speed does not stand out as much against NHL competition.
Passing/Handling:
Plays the game so fast that often times the puck comes off his stick just as fast as it comes to him. I'm not yet sure if this is an asset or a detriment as I'd like to see him be a bit more patient.
Shooting:
Was able to show off his shot once again. Positioned himself in front of goal on more than one occasion which he did a lot of in Sweden. Scored his first NHL goal on a loose puck rebound 4 or 5 feet from goal.
IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):
He plays the game as such a heightened pace that once again it is hard to tell if he is reading the ice properly or not.
Forechecking:
Has potential to be a forechecking beast as he's not afraid of physicality and flys into the zone.
Defense:
Defensively he is still an incomplete for me as his positioning still doesn't look quite right on a new team. Will be easier to give an opinion as he gets more settled in.
Best Asset:
In this game his best asset was his willingness to play around goal. Ohgren picked up his first NHL goal and recorded a secondary assist as well.
Biggest Concern:
Two of my concerns are his willingness to slow down, read the ice, change speeds. The way he currently plays will be predictable and as mentioned previously, his speed doesn't stand out at the NHL level the way it did in Sweden.
Top Tier/Role Potential:
At very best I can see Ohgren as a middle six NHLer with second line potential.
Justification for Top Tier Assessment:
Ohgren posses's desirable skills such as his speed, shot, and willingness to play in the tough areas of the ice.
50th Percentile Tier/Role:
Level 3
Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:
I can see Ohgren as a 40-50 point player if put in the right situation.
Stylistic Comparable:
Maybe a less physical Ryan Hartman.
