LOGAN HENSLER

Updated: Jul 27, 2025

Scout: Tony

Skating:

Logan is a great skater, good on his edges.

Passing/Handling:

Logan is really good passer, he makes really good passes out of the defensive zone and good assists to teammates in O zone

Shooting:

Logan has a good shot, although at times seems to be hesitant to shoot, sometimes he can't get his shots through. He seemed to score the closer he got to the net.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Logan has good Vision and Anticipation one his goals this year he faked an opponent out of his jock strap

Forechecking:

N/A

Defense:

Logan is a good defenseman he is excellent with his stick work, and will use his body when necessary (but not enough yet)

Best Asset:

Logans skating is his best asset

Biggest Concern:

My biggest concerns are Lack of physical play and Lack of confidence

Top Tier/Role Potential:

I would say Tier 2.

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

Logan could be Tier 2 or higher if he unlocks everything, He is more of a 2 way player now and with an infusion of confidence he go higher. I see playing in most situation but probably PP2 or spotty PP time

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Tier 3

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

A solid 2 way player, RHD, great skater and some PP time eventually

Stylistic Comparable:

Charlie McAvoy

Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:

If Logan can gain confidence and get more of his shots through and bring up the physicality he could be really good player

Scout: Patrick Ploch

Skating:

Hensler is a smooth skater. Good crossovers and lateral movement. Not the fastest skater which can hurt him sometimes. in the offensive zone, he does have the ability to walk the blue line.

Passing/Handling:

Logan is average handler as sometimes he can whiff on the puck but the passing is a plus skill. He did display some ability to carry the puck through the neutral zone in the transition game.

Shooting:

Hensler's shooting can use some work. He will reposition himself to get the puck through defenders and on net but it can lack zip and I didn't see any slap shots from the point.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Logan has average or slightly above average hockey IQ. He does have some vision and poise but I didn't see him getting ahead of the play very often.

Forechecking:

This is adequate as sometimes he will chip on the forecheck but mainly manned the point.

Defense:

Hensler has some good stickwork and physicality at times but there were other times when the stickwork missed or an attacker was able to get around him. This could be chalked up to being a freshmen.

Best Asset:

By far, I would say the best asset is the skating.

Biggest Concern:

I would say the biggest concern is the offense in general or the shot more specifically.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

I would lean more towards a second pair defensemen.

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

The skating and ability to transport the puck in transition could take him pretty far.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Third pair defensemen or tweener.

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

The defense has some room to improve along with the shot and hockey IQ. If some of those skills continue to be somewhat lacking, it will limit the upside.

Stylistic Comparable:

Not quite sure.

Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:

Hensler has some very good skills. Perhaps we will know more by the end of the season.

Scout: Josh Rosa

Skating:

Hensler is a fluid and fast skater for a 6’2 defender. Occasionally he lost an edge or his footing and fell in open ice, but growing fully into his stride should help with that. Speedier forwards can outpace him, but Hensler can generally keep up with the game, and is a good carrier of the puck with his size and speed.

Passing/Handling:

Hensler is a good passer, and has grown in his passing ability and creativity in a short amount of time. He is a heavy, accurate passer whether it’s starting a breakout or playing from the point. He doesn’t have the flashiest hands, but can use his long stick and reach to play with the puck.

Shooting:

Hensler generally does get his shots from the point through to the net, and when given ample time and space, he can shoot heavy and accurate and find the back of the net. Its not his biggest strength, but should be enough to be a threat.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

While Hensler does make a decision, it is generally a good one, it can just take a little bit longer than you would like to make for him to make that decision. He is generally very safe and smart with the puck, and will keep the puck, or get rid of it smartly, but the puck can stick with him a little too long.

Forechecking:

While patrolling the blueline, Hensler’s best asset is his long reach, that he can use to control a big chunk of the blueline, and has some pretty strong hand-eye coordination to block passes and clearance attempts on the ice and in the air.

Defense:

As a big, mobile defender, he has inherent strengths in defending. Like his play in the offensive zone, his decision making and reading of the play can be sped up more to be the most effective version of himself. He can use his stick or his size to separate the puck from the opponent and to put pressure on opponents.

Best Asset:

Hensler is a solid two-way defender and can contribute on both sides of the ice, while being a projectable size to the NHL. A defender than can put up points and not be a liability in his own zone is a very valuable thing.

Biggest Concern:

While he is capable of playing a 200 foot game, he isn’t the best at either. Without developing his decision making time and shot, he might not be able to produce offensively at the top level.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

Tier 1

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

If Hensler continues to develop, and adds speed and dimension to his offensive game, Hensler can be big and tough enough to be a top pairing defender, while putting points up on the board and being a powerplay quarterback.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Tier 2

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

If Hensler doesn’t develop offensively and his decision making still stays a step or two behind, Hensler should still be a valuable body in his own zone and be able to hold his own.

Stylistic Comparable:

Mike Matheson

Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:

Hensler is a very interesting prospect, that will be one of the top defenders taken. His game still has a lot of growing to do, but its something that can be worked on and if he does improve, he can be the best defender of the class
