Oliver Bonk

Skating:

Good skater, smooth strides and cover a lot of ice quickly. Almost deceptively.

Passing/Handling:

Stick handling is very good for defenseman as Bonk maneuvered himself out of trouble a few times, even drawing a penalty while being stuck in a less than ideal situation. His passing is also very solid as he moves the puck deliberately and rarely turns it over.

Shooting:

Bonk has a very good shot and uses it quite often from the bumper position on London's power play. He even picked a corner for a goal during a rush play. I believe his scoring can continue in the NHL but maybe not at the current pace.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Bonks ability to read the ice is a huge aspect of his game as he can jump into a rush at the blink of an eye as well as shut down a play before it starts on the defensive end. He makes smarts decisions with the puck and also makes sure to be in the right position without it.

Forechecking:

Defense:

Bonks size and long reach allow him break up plays and his IQ combined with his skating ability make him extemely formidable on the backend. I expect Bonk to fill out a bit more which will only help him continue to win more puck/board battles.

Best Asset:

Bonk can be a good two-way defenseman in the NHL. Right now his best asset is his IQ. He reads the ice well and can map out plays before they unfold, often times ensuring he is in the best position possible.

Biggest Concern:

Bonk is a well rounded right-handed defensemen. Obviously a concern would be that his current offensive production may not translate to the NHL but only time will tell.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

Bonk shows flashes of potential top pair defenseman but at the very least he is a top tier second pair defender.

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

I would like to see the offense translate at the pro level before stating Bonk as a bonafide top pair defensemen.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Level 1

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

I think Bonk could be a 40+ point defensemen with elite BASH as blocks, assists, shots, and hits are all things he does very well right now. He could score 5-10 goals a season with 25-30+ assists.
