BECKETT SENNECKE

2025-04-20

Scout: Jeremy Vercillo

Skating:

Sennecke's skating is sneaky-good. He's not the fastest guy, but he's not slow either. More importantly though, his edgework is impressive. He reminds me a bit of Crosby the way he likes to stop and go on with the puck and use Mohawk turns to open up his hips and create passing lanes. As a bigger body, this edgework will allow him to operate in tight spaces in corners and behind the net.

Passing/Handling:

This is the strongest part of Sennecke's game. He's got high-end stickhandling and crisp passing. Combined with his edgework and his size he's going to be a pain to take the puck off of. If anything, he is overconfident in his stickhandling and holds the puck too long looking for the perfect pass.

Shooting:

Sennecke isn't a big shooter. He does average 4+ SOG per game in the OHL, but he's not a guy you're anticipating a good chance from when the puck is on his stick. Almost all of his goals this year are from below the dots, and despite seeing him at the point on the PP some I didn't see any one-timer attempts. He definitely prefers to pass than to shoot.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

I don't love what I've seen from his hockey IQ. He holds the puck a bit too long at times and often just floats on defense. I feel if here were more aggressive getting himself into "good" positions he'd be a much more effective player.

Forechecking:

For the most part he was coming in as the 2nd or 3rd man high in the games I watched, so I didn't see as much forechecking as I'd expect from someone of his size.

Defense:

Sennecke's defense needs some work. He was definitely more of a passenger in the zone and often flew it early looking for a stretch pass. As a winger though, that concerns me a lot less than if he were a center like many top prospects start out.

Best Asset:

Stickhandling and Passing

Biggest Concern:

He just seems disengaged at times, like he's going through the motions.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

1st line winger, but not an elite player.

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

He's got a really nice complementary skillset, but I don't see him driving his own offense in the NHL. As a secondary piece he'll make the guys around him better though.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Middle-6 winger

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

If the stick skill doesn't translate to the NHL, I worry he won't be effective enough to be a true scoring line player. I think he's got enough skills to make and stay in lineups for a career though.

Stylistic Comparable:

Dylan Strome, Jordan Eberle

Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:

I'm less impressed than I expected to be given the statline and pedigree. He's a good player, but I don't see the same superstar potential most top-5 picks flash.

Games Scouted:

OHL Playoff games
