Matvei Michkov

Skating:

Loves to use his edges behind opposition goal to slip away from defenders and wreak havoc in the offensive zone. Will have no problem adjusting to speed and pace of play in the NHL.

Passing/Handling:

Michkov's passing and handling are elite. Would like to see him pass the puck sooner sometimes as he has a tendency to want to maneuver his way out of trouble instead of making the simple pass.

Shooting:

Most of Michkov's shots came from within 5-10 feet of the goal. During the three games I watched, Michkov scored 5 goals, all within 5 feet of the goal.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Michkov's IQ is elite. At times he looked "too smart" for the players around him as he attempted to do too much on his own. His anticipation is very good as even when playing defense, you can tell he's thinking about offense.

Forechecking:

Surprisingly Michkov is a very solid forechecker. He gets into the zone and behind the opposition goal quickly as it seems he really enjoys playing behind the goal. I watched him create multiple turnovers in deep, one of which lead directly to a goal. Michkov may be on the smaller side but he is tenacious for sure.

Defense:

Michkov plays defense much like a player who always has offense on his mind would play defense. He made sure he was in the proper position most shifts and seems to be always anticipating bad passes. In his own zone he could be better along the wall and more physical to help turn over the puck.

Best Asset:

Michkov's best asset is his IQ. He is a magician offensively as he not only reads the ice extremely well, he also creates chances for himself and his teammates seemingly out of nowhere.

Biggest Concern:

Michkov's defense or lack there of in the defensive zone would be a concern.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

Michkov is without a doubt a top line NHL Star.

Michkov possess elite offensive instincts and the talent to produce major goal and point totals to go along with it.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Level 1

I have Michkov at a level 1 because I believe he can be a point-per-game+ scorer in the NHL.
