OSCAR FISKER MOLGAARD

2025-04-25

Scout: Grant Campbell

Skating:

Molgaard is a slightly above average skater with good agility in tight. He's not particularly strong on his skates and will need to improve in that area. Skating is probably one of his strengths.

Passing/Handling:

Molgaard is a decent passer who finds open teammates in the OZ and his puck handling has moments of being impressive with longer moments of mediocrity.

Shooting:

He has a decent snap shot and backhand, but he's more of a passer than a shooter and his shot is not a strength moving forward.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

He can spend a whole shift chasing the puck in his own zone as he rarely breaks up the cycle or anticipates a pass to intercept. His anticipation is below average in the DZ. His vision is very good to find open teammates in the OZ, but he struggles to find soft spots to get open. He likes to have the puck on his stick so has a low panic threshold.

Forechecking:

He's a fairly ineffective forechecker as he loses more board battles than he wins. He has a pretty slight build and needs to add some strength at the AHL level.

Defense:

He has fairly good defensive positioning but can lose his assignment at times. He has a bad habit of holding his stick in one hand when defending in his own zone, which might have worked when he was younger but is ineffective in the SHL, AHL and NHL. He will need to be harder on the puck. He can play center or wing, but his defense will dictate where he plays at that AHL and NHL levels.

Best Asset:

Skating. He can turn it up a notch and beat the odd defender to the outside.

Biggest Concern:

Lack of offense. I just don't see where the offense is going to come from at even strength at the AHL or NHL levels. He doesn't drive play.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

Bottom Six center or wing. 10-15 goals and 15-20 assists with some faceoff wins and few hits or blocks.

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

He could afford to gain 15-25 pounds and get stronger, if it doesn't have a detrimental effect on his skating too much. His defensive acumen could work at the NHL level if he makes some improvements.

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

AHL forward who plays in the top six and gets some cups of coffee at the NHL level in the next two or three years.

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

If he can't establish himself defensively in the AHL or NHL, then he will have little hope of playing anything more than a handful of games in the NHL.

Stylistic Comparable:

Nils Aman with a little more offense

Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:

I thought Molgaard would be a pretty polished defensive forward from what I'd read before scouting him. He chases the puck a lot, but rarely (in my viewings) made a defensive play that stopped the other team in it's tracks. At this point, I don't see him playing more than a handful of NHL games.

Games Scouted:

04/19/25 vs San Diego AHL; 03/01/25 vs Brynas SHL; 01/11/25 vs Vaxjo SHL
