WILL SKAHAN

2024-12-03

Scout: Tony

Skating:

Will seems to be a very smooth and balanced skater.

Passing/Handling:

Will is a great passer, He is able to get puck out of the zone and through from the point, He needs some work on handling in close to his body, being a 6'4" player he handles better further away from his body.

Shooting:

Will's shot is decent, can score but he needs to work on it.

IQ (Vision, Anticipation, Panic/Poise):

Will has a very high IQ, Great Vision, Anticipation and Poise. I saw little if any panic in his games. Will keeps his head up and able to read plays to make his precision passes.

Forechecking:

Will is usually in good position so not a lot of chance to forecheck.

Defense:

Will is usually in good position and not very often on the wrong side of the puck, Wills skating, passing and hockey IQ allow him to be a really good defenseman.

Best Asset:

I would say Will's best assist is his Hockey IQ, Head is always up and he is always looking for the right pass to exit zone or to get to teammate in the offensive zone.

Biggest Concern:

Will does not seem to be a big hitter and I did not notice a lot of blocked shots and he does not score enough.

Top Tier/Role Potential:

Tier 2 middle pair defense

Justification for Top Tier Assessment:

With his Hockey IQ and passing Will could be a very good defenseman. With the correct deployment and on the correct team he could play on middle pair, get some power play and penalty kill time

50th Percentile Tier/Role:

Third Pair or 7th defenseman with no powerplay time.

Justification for 50th Percentile Tier Assessment:

Not enough BASH to earn more ice time in all situations

Stylistic Comparable:

I would say Alex Piterangelo.

Scouts Final Thoughts and Additional Stats/Info:

Will will have to work on his scoring and BASH but could carve out a career playing good defense and lots of assists.

Games Scouted:

1 NCAA Game, ! International Game
